I understand that, under the Income Tax Act, the Ministry of Education and Child Care must issue scholarship recipients a T4A for the taxation year in which their scholarship cheque is issued. When redeeming a scholarship, recipients will need to provide a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for this purpose. Payments cannot be made to students with temporary SINs (beginning with ‘9’).
