Council of the Federation Literacy Award Submission Form

In 2021, British Columbia will celebrate the achievements of a literacy-related organization helping Indigenous, workplace or community literacy learners in B.C. acquire the literacy skills they need to improve their lives. This includes Indigenous language, numerical, digital or other forms of literacy. In B.C., the award is administered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.

Eligibility

This year, the award will go to a literacy-related organization in B.C. providing leadership in the field through partnerships and collaboration, and that demonstrates outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in literacy. Selection of the recipient will be evidence-based.

Employees of the Government of British Columbia, members of the selection committee and their families or past winners are not eligible for the British Columbia Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

Submission Deadline

Each nominee/organization representative must provide signed consent to having their name, summary of achievements, and photograph released to the media and included in Government of British Columbia publications for publicity purposes associated with this award.

Rationale for Nomination

Please clearly state how the nominee has met the following criteria (1,000 words maximum).

1. Leadership: Clear evidence of a long-term leadership role in the field of literacy in any area(s) involving innovative collaborations, partnerships, practices and/or unique programs.
2. Responsiveness: The nominee’s contributions are relevant and respond to literacy needs in their community.
3. Results/accomplishments: The nominee’s dedication and commitment have improved the lives of learners in B.C. Evidence of measurable outcomes and/or impact(s) on the literacy field.

Letters of Support

Two letters of support are required. Each letter should be a maximum of 500 words each. Each letter of support must be accompanied by a signed Nominator and Third-Party Privacy Consent Form.

Letters of support should provide specific examples as to why nominated organization deserves the award and meets the three required criteria (leadership, responsiveness and results/accomplishments).

If your organization has self-nominated, written support will be required by at least one external organization/person to validate your submission.

Additional Supporting Materials (optional)

Optional supporting materials may include reports, media articles, pamphlets, testimonials, photographs, awards, etc. Six attachments are allowed in total.

Each document uploaded material should support the application in one of three areas:

• Leadership: Clear evidence of a progressive leadership role in the field of literacy in any area(s) involving innovative collaborations, partnerships, practices and/or unique programs.
• Responsiveness: The nominee’s contributions are relevant and respond to literacy needs in their community.
