    The Honours and Awards Secretariat is indirectly collecting Indigenous and racial identity information about potential nominees from nominators under the authority of section 2 of the Anti-Racism Data Act and s. 26 (c) and 27(1)(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This information will be combined with other information about potential nominees to gather important insights into the diversity of nominations received and advance racial equity in honours and awards. This indirect collection of information is in accordance with Section 3(3) of ARDA and the combined information will be used in accordance with Section 4 of ARDA. It also collects information under the authority of s. 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and s. 17 of the Provincial Symbols and Honours Act, to evaluate eligibility and notify recipients of the Order of British Columbia. By submitting this form, you are confirming that the individuals who have agreed to submit letters in support of this nomination have authorized you to provide their information as disclosed on this form.   • Steps to Nominate Someone

    When preparing to submit your nomination consider the following:

    • A completed and signed nomination form.
    • A detailed description of the nominee’s achievements including background/history of the nominee (500 words maximum).
    • Two (2) signed testimonials from two (2) separate individuals other than the nominator, who have direct knowledge of the value and impact of the nominee’s achievement and who support the nomination. The letters must be signed by the testimonial writer and include contact information (address, telephone number and email). An electronic signature or scanned copy of the signed letters will be accepted. Maximum of 5 letters accepted.
    • Optional supporting documents (e.g., testimonials, articles, media) can be submitted via links or scanned files.

    All submitted materials become the property of the Honours and Awards Secretariat and will not be returned. Do not send multiple or bound copies of publications, or original official documents or photographs, as they will not be returned.

    Racialized people can have racial meanings attributed to them in ways that negatively impact their social, political, and economic lives.   • Please provide a detailed and thoughtful summary of your nominee’s achievements. This section is the primary basis for evaluation by the Selection Committee, so it is essential that it is complete and clearly written.

    Your summary should include:

    • A clear timeline of the nominee’s service or contributions, including how long they have been involved in the work or activities for which they are being nominated.
    • The scope of impact—whether the nominee’s contributions have had a provincial, national, or international effect. (Reminder for local contributions consider the MGC).
    • Specific achievements and the measurable or observable results of their efforts and impact in the province, or country.

    You may also wish to include (refer to the How to Write a Compelling Nomination document for prompting questions):

    • Examples of how the nominee has demonstrated outstanding qualities or leadership.
    • Ways in which they have improved the lives of others.
    • What distinguishes them from others in their field.
    • The roles or areas in which they have excelled.
    • Recognition or reputation beyond British Columbia or Canada.
    • Evidence of sustained contributions over time.
    • Awards or other forms of recognition they have received.

  • Letters of support should clearly explain why the writer supports the nomination. This includes:

    • The writer’s relationship to the nominee and how they are familiar with the nominee’s work.
    • Specific examples or experiences that illustrate the nominee’s impact.
    • The writer’s perspective on the significance of the nominee’s contributions.

    Letters that do not provide this context make it more difficult to assess the nomination, so please ensure supporters are aware of these expectations.
