The Minister of Forests has received a request for the subdivision of Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 39 whereby a new TFL (number to be determined) will be established through the removal of Blocks 3 and 5 from TFL 39. TFL 39 is currently held by Western Forest Products (WFP).
Should the subdivision receive approval, the Minister of Forests has also received a Request for Approval of an Intended Transfer (RAIT) for TFL 39-Block 1, along with 3 Timber Licences, 36 active cutting permits and 3 associated Road Permits, from WFP to Qwoqwnes Forestry Holdings Limited Partnership (Qwoqwnes), owned by Tla’amin Nation . The new TFL containing Blocks 3 and 5 (split from TFL 39 by the subdivision) will continue to be held by WFP.
Associated Land Act tenures are also likely to be reassigned to Qwoqwnes following a decision on the TFL transfer.
